A high beta-carotene cucumber inbred line 'EOM 402-10' (S4; orange flesh) was developed from the evaluation of three previous population derived from U.S. pickling cucumber x XIS. The inbred line 'EOM 402-10' and 'Gy7' (gynoecious, non beta-carotene, white flesh) were crossed to produce F1, F2, BC1P1 and BC1 P2 segregating progenies. Evaluation of segregating progenies indicated that two recessive genes control the beta-carotene content in the mesocarp, while one recessive gene controls the beta-carotene content in the endocarp.... F2 progeny in GH1 and GH2, respectively, and 62 and 40 progeny of each backcross in GH1 and GH2, respectively.
